On this day, the single “Another One Bites the Dust” by British rock band Queen started a three week run at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This is the band’s second #1 single in the US. The single spent fifteen weeks in the Billboard top ten (the longest running top ten song of 1980) and a total of 31 weeks on the chart. It also reached number two on the Hot Soul Singles chart and the Disco Top 100 chart, and number seven on the UK Singles Chart. The single was ranked number 34 on Billboard’s All-Time Top Songs.

The song won an American Music Award for Favorite Rock Single and was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
